Essen, Germany: Frigoblock’s newly developed inverter technology, which enables a drastic reduction in energy consumption and pollutant emissions, has been recognised with an award from the German Ministry for the Environment.
“I am really pleased that our efforts over a number of years in the area of energy-saving, eco-friendly transport refrigeration technology have been recognised, not just by the market, but also by the world of politics through this award,” says Frigoblock managing director, Peter Großkopf.
The systems uses propene, a natural refrigerant, for the first time in a two-stage refrigeration circuit with continuous speed control of all components. “This has enabled us to succeed in reducing CO2 emissions, which are harmful in terms of climate change, by 75% in comparison to market-standard refrigeration units with integrated diesel drives,” Großkopf saus.
“This also means as much as 95% fewer pollutant emissions in exhaust gas and 95% lower noise emissions,” he says.
After test runs at the Essen works, the new environmentally friendly technology will undergo its first practical field trials over the next few months with Aldi Süd. There are already further orders for test vehicles from fleet operators.
Frigoblock is currently looking into various possibilities for further reducing CO2 emissions and the resulting greenhouse effect with the Institute for Thermodynamics at Brunswick University in a research project on the energy efficiency of natural and environmentally friendly refrigerants, sponsored by the Federal Office for the Environment (UBA) with funding from the Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMU).
“This means that Frigoblock will also in future be taking on the role of system leader in the transport refrigeration sector,” Großkopf says.
