Aldi plans new distribution centre in Bedford

Bedford, UK: Discount supermarket chain Aldi has submitted plans for a 88,000sq metre warehouse in Bedford.

The regional centre would serve its network of stores across Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire.

If planning permission is granted, it will be the chain’s 12th distribution site in the UK.

Aldi recently announced plans to open more than 300 new stores by 2022. It currently has 700 supermarkets in Britain.

Chief executive Matthew Barnes has said previously: “Our plans are significant when viewed against the changes taking place in the UK grocery market.”
