New EU rules for lorry licensing

Brussels, Belgium: New EU rules covering the licensing of lorry, bus and coach operators are due to come into force in December this year.

Under the new regulations, all member states will have to establish a national register of operators. It will also require other member states to act on information from  enforcement agencies in other countries when operators commit infringements.

Some EU states such as the UK alteady have such data that form part of the enforcement  systems. UK transport minister Mike Penning said: “These new EU measures will help to level the playing field for UK operators by making sure that there are effective mechanisms in all member states to allow enforcement agencies to report illegal activity by foreign vehicles.
