Road transport industry fights back against cargo criminals

Manchester, UK: Commercial vehicle safety and security specialists, Maple, is launching the Cargo and Road Transport (CART) Security Guide at the forthcoming Commercial Vehicle Show next week.

The publication is written in collaboration with some of the industry’s best known and well respected organisations, providing a greater insight into the security risks posed to road haulage companies and potential solutions that can be adopted.

In order to ensure comprehensive representation across the board a dedicated working group was formed; chaired by Maple and with contribution from Distribution Industry Partnership Scotland, the Road Haulage Association, DHL, Royal Sun Alliance Insurance Group, Motorway Buddy and National Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service.

Each member of the group provided insight and professional opinion drawn from their experience within their respective market sector.

Taking almost two years from project conception to publication, the resource includes sixteen chapters discussing cargo crime and the specific associated threats that operators face on a daily basis. Topics include cargo theft and security solutions, hijacking, the Romanian MO and the migrant threat plus more.

The A4, 104 page publication is available free and will be officially launched at the upcoming CV Show with limited copies available from Maple’s stand.

In addition to being created to act as a central reference point for all aspects related to commercial vehicle security, the guide also struck a personal cord with Maple Fleet Services’ Technical Director, Alan Maple “17 years ago my farther, Jim Maple, published a commercial vehicle security guide, with the aim of helping marine insurance underwriters to better understand how to secure a commercial vehicle…today the cargo crime landscape has evolved to an extent that I felt the circumstances warranted the writing of a similar, if not more comprehensive document.”
