GRW and Schmitz Cargobull have, since 2016, collaborated on design and development of refrigerated semi-trailers and box bodies for the South African market.

These will also be supplied with Schmitz Cargobull’s fridges and telematics.

“Through the partnership with Schmitz Cargobull we anticipate significant synergies thanks to the latest German technology in the refrigerated semi-trailer construction sector, says Gerhard van der Merwe, who, with Wentzel van der Merwe and Rossouw van Eeden, set up GRW in 1996.

“It is our philosophy to offer the best that is available in the market,” van der Merwe said.

Andreas Schmitz, chairman, Schmitz Cargobull, said: “The economy in South Africa is recovering and continuing to grow. That bodes well for a long-term business relationship between GRW and Schmitz Cargobull which is to the advantage of both parties.”

GRW initially made tankers before diversifying into other trailer types.
