Stobart restructures chilled operations

Carlisle, UK:  The Stobart Group is restructuring its chilled operations to improve efficiency following under-performance in this side of its business.  Part of these plans include closing depots at Corby and Alcester and investing in a new chilled warehouse at Magna Park, Lutterworth.

The group’s latest trading update  revealed that the company is to focus on restructuring and improving both its chilled and warehousing operations which are performing below the previous financial year.

A spokesman said: “The restructuring will result in a more efficient operation to take advantage of future market opportunities.”

On the closures, the spokesman added: “To meet demands of the current business environment, Eddie Stobart is announcing changes as part of continuing re-alignment and the best possible allocation of resources to support its transport division network nationally.”

The company expects the restructuring to improve efficiency, reduce the environmental impact of the movement of empty trucks, and ultimately deliver a continually more cost-effective service.

In its trading statement Stobart stressed that “transport and distribution” was operating within a challenging economic environment but that its ambient transport operations were largely restructured and improved and have progressed well in the second half of the year.
