Turners commits to Browns’ future

Newmarket, Suffolk, UK: Following the recent acquisition of Browns Chilled Distribution, Turners (Soham) has started a major fleet replacement programme with 50 new Mercedes-Benz Actros tractor units.

Stephen Blackmore, in charge of business development at Turners, says that the vehicles will be delivered through December and into January 2013 as the first stage of a fleet replacement programme. The remaining Browns trucks (around 70) will probably be replaced during the first half of 2013.

The replacement vehicles will all be fitted with Isotrak telematics, enabling maximised performance and utilisation within the Browns’ operation at Bicker, Lincolnshire.

The investment is designed to “maintain and build on the reliability and high service levels already given to Turners’ existing and new customers through Browns’ operations,” says Blackmore.

Turners has also ordered eight more Actros for its own fleet at Newmarket.

Turners completed the acquisition of Browns in September. This £35m turnover operation was owned by Simon and Andrew Brown and includes the former David Andrew Transport business.
