Cartwright low height double deck fridge trailer for Culina

Dublin, Ireland: Cartwright has built a low height double deck fridge for Culina Logistics.

Culina Logistics needed the trailer to operate within the low height restriction of 4.65m in the Dublin port tunnel.

Typicialy double deck trailers 4.88m high. Cartwright built the double deck temperature-controlled trailer to 4.65m but still allowing for Culina’s 1.83m cage height on each deck.

The design allows double deck trailers to enter Ireland and brings fuel savings of up to 4%. Culina is undertaking road tests for an exact measure woith the new trailer.

Culina can expect to see less damage caused by trees and low bridges, especially prevalent on unpredictable motorway diversion routes. The weight of the trailer has been reduced, increasing the payload. With a more efficient trailer, Culina expects to roll the new design out to its entire fleet across the UK.

Lionel Curtis, technical director, Cartwright, said: “The task required different manufacturing and assembly techniques which we were already familiar with, but when we weight tested the deck there was no residual deflection whatsoever.

“The deck was carefully designed and analysed to make it work with different materials and processes. This project needed some careful structural design but we are very pleased with the results,” he added.

Culina has described the new trailer as a ‘game changer’.  Cartwright Rentals has also added five of the new trailers to its rental fleet.
