Salt Lake City, US: Temperature controlled distribution giant CR England has joined forces with SleepPointe to sponsor a Fatigue Awareness Month campaign for truck drivers in April.
The campaign includes activities designed to educate drivers and contractors through training, safety videos and other events. “Fatigue awareness is a key issue for our drivers, especially in the month of April as the days grow longer,” said Thom Pronk, corporate vice president – recruiting, training and safety.
CR England and SleepPointe are hosting Fatigue Awareness events at CR England’s sites nationwide that focus on three themes:
- Recognizing signs of fatigue
- Science of fatigue
- Managing fatigue
According to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), statistics conservatively show that 100,000 drowsy driving crashes are reported to police each year, killing more than 1,500 Americans and injuring another 71,000. Driver fatigue is a physiological and psychological condition that can greatly affect driving judgment and abilities and impacts alertness and response time. As the days grow longer and as road conditions improve, the potential for fatigue-related accidents increases exponentially.
