Food and drink exports to EU slump 40% in February

London, UK: The UK Food and Drink Federation has published a snapshot report of food and drink exports to the EU in February, showing a 40% drop compared with a year earlier.

The federation, which represents more than 800 companies, said that food and drink exports to the EU in February were worth £578.7m, down from £1bn in February 2020.

Sales of milk and cream to the EU fell 96.4% compared with February 2020, and exports of chicken and beef dropped more than 75%.

Dominic Goudie, the federation’s head of international trade, said: ““UK businesses continue to struggle with inconsistent and incorrect demands at EU borders, and small businesses have been hardest hit due to the collapse of groupage distribution into the EU.”

The federation said it was “essential” that the UK urgently restarts talks with the EU to resolve the crisis.
