Gregory Distribution buys Philson Haulage

North Tawton, Devon, UK: Gregory Distribution has purchased temperature-controlled transport firm Philson Haulage, which is based in Chichester.

Philson has a turnover of around £7 million and employs 56 people at its base in Chichester.

Philson’s website describes it as specialising in the “temperature-controlled storage and distribution of refrigerated fresh produce both in the UK and Europe”.

The company’s customers include many importers in the general food, fruit and vegetable sectors. Philson also provide a temperature-controlled distribution network for one of the UK’s leading supermarket chains.

Philson has a fleet of over 30 vehicles.

Gregory reckons its turnover will be about £125m after the acquisition, employing around 1,300 staff across 18 operating locations in England and Scotland.

“Acquiring Philson has allowed Gregory Distribution to expand its current operations on the South Coast of England,” says Gregory Distribution chief executive John Gregory. “Philson’s transport activities complement existing Gregory temperature-controlled work and therefore both operations should benefit.”

Phil Dickinson, co-owner of Philson, says: “The opportunity to become part of a larger family-owned business will provide the resources and support that are necessary for us to continue to develop the business in a dynamic and service-driven marketplace.”
