Kerry Logistics targets Australian cold chain

Melbourne, Australia: Kerry Logistics has set up a joint venture with west Melbourne-based cold chain services provider Mosskito Logistics.

Hong-Kong based Kerry Logistics aims to tap into the cold chain distribution segment in Australia. Branded Kerry Logistics Cold Chain, the partnership will operate a fleet of over 30 temperatiere-controlled trucks distributing food and pharmaceuticals in Victoria.

“This is a major step forward for Kerry Logistics in the cold chain distribution sector in Australia,” says Kelvin Mason, Kerry Logistics executive director Australia,.

“We are looking to use the new company as a platform to expand our cold chain business throughout Australia and offer a vertically integrated fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) supply chain model to the rapidly expanding Asian market,” he says.

The move comes two weeks after Kerry Logistics secured a contract with Woolworths in SouthAustralia to provide landside logistics for general merchandise and supermarket destinations.

Services comprise collection and de-stuffing of containers, cross docking and pallet storage for Woolworths Distribution Centre’s network throughout the southern Australia region, Kerry says.

“This is a landmark contract for Kerry Logistics with Australia’s leading retail brand, we are delighted to have the opportunity to build a long-term relationship with Woolworths,” says executive director, Ian Trimboli.

Kerry Logistics Cold Chain has two cold storage facilities in Melbourne and Bendigo.
