Logistics firm Mets expands cold storage in Philippines

Carmona, Philippines: Mets Logistics has been given the green light to expand its post-harvest facilities (cold storage and blast freezing) to the tune of US$7 million. The company currently has 11,052sq metres of cold storage and 1,445sq metres of dry warehouse space in Carmona, Cavite.

“This project will ensure a steady supply of fresh and frozen foods into the marketplace,” says Gregory Domingo, trade secretary and chair of the Board of Investments.

Mets will provide modern cold and dry storage services for clients in Laguna and Cavite, such as Purefoods Hormel, Pacific Meats, KFC, Monterey and Danasia.

“This project will ensure a steady supply of fresh and frozen foods into the marketplace,” Domingo says.

Locally owned METS Logistics’ existing facility comprises a cold storage with eight rooms with 400-pallet positions, a processing room for repacking meat products and two blast freezing rooms with 4-pallet positions.

METS will expand its operation to offer a cold storage facility with six rooms at 520-pallets, a processing room and two blast freezing rooms with 4-pallets. The two facilities will have an aggregate capacity of 6,320-pallet positions.

Commercial operations are expected to begin in January 2012.
