Marten Transport first quarter profit up 33%

Mondovi, WI, US: Marten Transport reports net income for the first quarter up 33% on rising revenue.

The termperature-controlled truckload provider reported net income for the quarter of US$5.4m up from $4.1m the year before. Operating revenue increased to $151.5m from $137.9m.

“Despite increasing fuel prices and a tight driver market, our focus on building a multi-faceted business model and attention to developing a diverse customer base have expanded our logistics business and our regional operations throughout the country,” said Randolph Marten, chairman and chief executive of Marten Transport.

Fuel surcharge revenue increased to $28.8m for the first quarter of 2012 from $25.4m in the 2011 quarter, due to higher fuel prices.
