New Cool puts 22 prototype electric reefers into service

Amsterdam, Netherlands: Dutch trailer builder THT New Cool has 22 of its New Cool prototype refrigerated trailers, which use axle-generated electricity to power the fridge, in service with operators in the Netherlands.

THT New Cool says customer feedback is good and the company is planning to enter serial production in 2019.

The New Cool reefer uses a Carrier Vector 1550 E fridge powered by a battery pack that is charged by the axle driven generator. The generator, made by Valx, operates when the truck decelarates to charge the battery. Once a week the reefer has to be charged via an external cable to maintain full battery power.

The trailer meets Piek noise limits, has no CO₂ or other emissions and operates independently of the tractor unit.

THT New Cool can install the system on any make of reefer trailer.
