NewCold on course for Corby second deep freeze

Corby, UK: NewCold’s second UK deep freeze store is on course to open next year with building work underway.

The Corby coldstore is on a 23-acre plot and ideally sited in the ‘golden triangle’ of proximity to frozen distribution centres of food retailers and food service suppliers, says Jon Miles, country director, NewCold.

“Everything is going to plan for the new site and given the high demands being placed on our Wakefield facility, (pictured above) even with its colossal 4 million-pallet annual turnover, our target date for opening in the fourth quarter of 2021, hardly seems soon enough.”

The Wakefield operation, now five years old, handles 143,000 pallets. “We needed to enhance our national service, particularly for customers wishing to benefit from a closer facility than the Wakefield site. To this end, Corby is ideally situated to support UK frozen food manufacturers and importers looking to enhance their supply chain value,” Miles says.

Like the Wakefield site, the new store will use around 50% less energy than a conventional cold storage operation. “This, coupled with our ability to reduce food miles by using high-volume trailers will greatly reduce CO2 emissions and energy use,” Miles says.

In 2015 NewCold made its first foray into the UK with its automated, 40m-high cold store in Wakefield, Yorkshire.
