Oakland boss reaches South Pole

South Pole, Antarctica: Oakland International chief executive Dean Attwell has succeeded in his ambitious goal to reach the South Pole, in support of children’s charity Molloy Olly’s Wishes.

Attwell’s self-funded trip raised nearly £21,000 (at the time of writing) and with Gift Aid the total is currently just over £23,000.

Attwell and his team reached the South Pole on 12 January.

“Approaching the South Pole is different than any of their previous days because there is actually something to see on the horizon,” said the team. “The buildings of the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station grew closer and closer over the few relaxed hours of skiing.”

Molloy Olly’s Wishes supports children aged 0-18, and their families, with help to ease the burdens of living with a terminal or life-threatening illness by granting children individual wishes and providing emotional therapeutic support.

Attwell is no stranger to expeditions as he completed a North Pole challenge in 2017.

Donations are still being accepted at the time of writing: Attwell’s fundraising page is: https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-display/showROFundraiserPage?userUrl=Dean-Attwell&pageUrl=4
