Sainsbury’s sales fall

London, UK: Sainsbury’s latest quarterly trading statement, reports a fall of 1.2% in its total sales, excluding fuel.

Chief executive Mike Coupe talked of a “tough trading environment” where “retail markets remain highly competitive and promotional.”

The results for the 16 weeks to 29 June show like-for-like sales falling by 1.6%.
