Wuhan Hubei, China: Dongfeng Motor Company and Schmitz Cargobull are to cooperate on joint venture in make and sell commercial vehicle trailers in China.
Huang Gang, General Manager of Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle said at a signing ceremony of a letter on intent: “Dongfeng is the leading truck manufacturer in China and Schmitz Cargobull the leading semi trailer manufacturer in Europe. The combination of the best truck with the best semi trailer will provide the greatest value for our customers with a one-stop shopping solution”.
Andreas Schmitz, board director of Schmitz Cargobull said: “We are seeing a great opportunity brought by the growing transport market of China. The initial goals of the joint venture consists of high-quality production according to state-of-the-art industrial standards as well as a dense sales and service network with innovative services in the People’s Republic of China.”
Dongfeng Motor Corporation is one of the big three automotive makers in China. Its main businesses include passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, engine, parts and components. It is the market leader for commercial vehicles and in 2007 made 1,137,000 vehicles.
Schmitz Cargobull is one of Europe’s largest manufacturers of trailers and semi-trailers, including temperature-controlled trailers, for commercial vehicles.
