Transport forum for South Holland

Spalding, UK:  Nick Hay, managing director of Fowler Welch, has invited around 50 firms to the inaugural meeting of the South Holland and District Logistics Forum to be held next Thursday.

The group will discuss issues facing the transport sector and act as a collective voice in lobbying politicians and government departments.  The forum, instigated by South Holland District Council, plans to be business-led with local firms taking the lead in discussing and campaigning on matters that involve the logistics sector.

Councillor Howard Johnson says: “We want transport firms to meet each other regularly to discuss and address common problems and issues.”  Between 1,200 and 2,000 lorries use Spalding in any 24-hour period, which underlines the importance of transport to South Holland and the businesses it serves, he says.

“The council is a prime mover in supporting business in the district and we have a key role in enabling firms to present a united in front in promoting local business interests,” Johnson says.

The first meeting is a breakfast event in the Sage Restaurant at the Red Lion Quarter.  Guest speaker is Nick Gallop, logistics consultant at Intermodility, who will update delegates on the progress of the proposed Rail Freight Interchange at Deeping St Nicholas.

Hay will chair this first meeting but the chair will rotate in subsequent meetings.
