Young’s to store dry goods with Yearsley Group

Grimsby, Yorkshire UK:  Young’s Seafood, provider of chilled and frozen fish and seafood, has become the first major manufacturer to use Yearsley Group’s new ambient storage facility, after signing a deal to take space at the Grimsby depot.

The UK seafood specialist, which has three manufacturing facilities based in Grimsby, has stored frozen raw materials and finished products with Yearsley for more than 10 years. This new contract extends the amount of pallet space Young’s Seafood Limited has with Yearsley, to include non-frozen ingredients and packaging.

It is the biggest contract of its type since the launch of Grimsby’s ambient storage facility in summer 2011, following the £500,000 refurbishment of an existing ‘chamber’. Yearsley Group also provides Young’s with a dedicated shuttle service, feeding materials into its three Grimsby manufacturing facilities and collecting finished frozen products for storage and distribution to retailers.

Scott Barker, distribution manager at Young’s Seafood, said: “We have stored frozen materials and products with Yearsley Group for over a decade and made use of their vendor management service, NetStock on-line information system, and dedicated deliveries. They provide a very efficient and responsive service and, now they have capacity for non-frozen storage and distribution, it makes sense for us to consolidate all of our stock with one provider.”

Having identified there is significant potential for growth within this sector, Yearsley Group is now analysing which other manufacturing customers could benefit from this additional service, and which of its other 11 cold stores across the UK could incorporate a similar ambient storage facility for dry goods.

Tim Moran, Yearsley Group’s logistics sales director, said: “In the current market, manufacturers are looking for logistics providers who can provide a straightforward service which reduces management time and increases efficiency. The one-stop-shop solution which Yearsley Group has created, allows manufacturers to deal with a single supplier for all of their storage and distribution requirements.”

“We can develop a bespoke service which ensures real time updates about stock levels, dedicated collection and delivery, and access to the wider Yearsley Group network of cold stores and customers which includes the UK’s biggest retailers and catering providers.,” Moran said.

“This extension of service provision has been welcomed by several existing and new customers who are now storing their non-frozen raw materials and packaging with us.”

We are extremely pleased to be able to include Young’s Seafood Ltd among them and to be providing this additional solution for one of the UK’s largest food manufacturers. Our next step is to identify where else and for whom this solution might be able to provide significant customer benefits,” Moran said.
